Locally Caught Fresh Prawns in Cairns

Savour the Ocean's Bounty

Our wild-caught prawns are sourced directly from local trawlers. We pride ourselves on knowing that our trawlers use nets fitted with TED turtle-excluding devices that safely release all of the sharks, turtles and other living animals in the ocean. As the catch is pulled onto the boat, it is processed and packed as fast as possible and then snapped frozen below -20 degrees.

The East Coast prawn season is from March until the end of November, specialising in Endeavour, King and Tiger prawns, and the Gulf prawn season is from August until the end of November, specialising in Banana and Tiger prawns.

NQ Prawn Cutlets in Cairns is one of the only prawn processing plants left. We specialise in processing fresh prawns into cutlets and meat. Our cutlets come in four sizes, great for prawn cocktails and large skewers on the BBQ and our prawn meat comes in two sizes, perfect for curries and stir-fries.

Raw & Cooked Prawns

You can buy all our locally caught prawns raw, or we cook them fresh every day. With small, medium and large available cooked fresh, there’s the perfect prawn for all occasions.

ENDEAVOUR PRAWNS – There are two types, blue or red. They are a sweet prawn and are generally well-priced.

KING PRAWNS – Kings have a vibrant blue tail when raw and turn pink to orange when cooked. You will see a red spot on the Red Spot Kings; they are perfect for a bucket of prawns.

TIGER PRAWNS – Tiger prawns can grow quite large; they are firm prawns, perfect for curries and have a nice crunch. You will notice the tigers are striped, which gives them their name.

BANANA PRAWNS – Banana prawns have a yellow colouring; the majority of these are caught in the Gulf in the later parts of the year.

We process local prawns into cutlets; we are one of the only places in North Queensland to supply these and local meat as well.
